Are You Wasting Your Most Valuable Asset?
Time is our most valuable asset. We have a limited supply and what we do with it influences our success in business. That’s why we’re surprised – no, shocked – at how many window fashions retailers cling to practices that waste time. Time that could be used prospecting, making sales calls, closing deals, or just recharging so they can stay on top of their game.
Typically, window fashions retailers have used a sales model that hasn’t changed much over the years: Prospect for leads; lug heavy samples and catalogs to appointments; use a tape measure, pen and paper to measure and transcribe dimensions of windows; go back to the office, enter the order into a computer; consult catalogs for pricing; print out or email a quote; follow up on the quote to get a signed purchase order; submit the order to the fabricator; update customers about order status; receive and install the order; and, hope that the received order matches the customer’s expectations.
It’s time-consuming and unnecessary, and the reasons retailers resist change are understandable. Learning new processes takes time. It may require training. And it can push us out of our comfort zone.
