Cheaper, Faster, Better. Pick Any Two.
There’s an old saying: Want a cheaper product, higher performance and the best features? You can pick any two.
In other words, the solutions to every challenge come with compromises. Quicker solutions may be more costly, or fail to deliver all the features you want. The best features can come at a premium. And the cheapest solutions rarely deliver the performance and bells and whistles you want.
Solatech has been supporting the window fashion industry since ’92, and all those years the cheaper-faster-better equation has remained true, for products and for technology.
For those of us in the tech biz, what has changed are customer beliefs about what technology should cost. Download a great app on your phone and it might cost three bucks. Or it might be free. That influences how customers perceive the value of products they buy.
We’re not immune to this. Every day we’re asked about “point of sale” software that’s cheaper than Solatech SalesPRO. Our answer: If you just want the cheapest solution, try it. But don’t expect it to do the things that will grow your business.
How We Answer the Value Question
Faced with so many potential Window Fashion Professionals who are concerned with the cost of software, it’s tempting to build an app that provides limited features and runs on a phone or tablet. We’ve considered it, but doing that would sell our customers short. So we’ve never gone there.
When we think about value, software cost is only one factor. It’s an important one, but over time it becomes less of a priority than the time a user has to spend on every customer sale, which includes:
- Presenting products and options
- Accurately measuring windows and transferring those measurements to a quote sheet
- Selecting products and options, and validating those configurations
- Generating a quote
- Generating a purchase order
- Delivering the purchase order to the fabricator for production
Solatech SalesPRO does all of this, quickly. Right from the customer’s home, if you like. But to do this requires a level of detail and precision that can’t exist in an inexpensive app. But we see the added cost as an acceptable trade off, considering:
- the many hours our users save on each sales call
- the reduction in errors associated with measuring and transferring figures to a quote sheet, or attempting to order products that can’t be manufactured
- All the office paperwork & duplicate or triplicate date entry that is eliminated
That detail comes from maintaining alliance partnerships with industry leading fabricators, so we can incorporate painstakingly maintained product data and pricing into SalesPRO. It’s time consuming for us, but we see it as a critical part of supporting our users so they can quote and close sales quickly and without errors. Selling more – that’s value.
